This outstanding 2 oz silver coin is dedicated to the Church of St. Francis of Assisi – the mother church of the Roman Catholic Order of Friars Minor Conventual, situated in Assisi, Italy. The coin is also created to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Wyspiański’s birthday!
Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi is located in the very heart of Cracow. This place means a lot not only for Christians but also for everyone who fancies sacral art. The stained glass “God the Father” that decorates the church was created by a Polish painter and interior designer Stanisław Wyspiański. The coin is decorated with a unique colored glass insert, referring to this priceless work of art. It is visible on both sides.
The reverse of the coin portrays a famous Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi and the inside part of this particular church, with a plan of the outlay of the church below. To the left is shown a section taken from within the church showing a beautifully designed stained-glass window. On the obverse, the stained-glass can be seen showing the image in reverse.
It is a brilliant gift for Cracow’s history and architecture admirer!
