This attractive 2 oz silver coin is the first coin of the “Sea Battles” series. It is dedicated to one of the most important naval battles, in this case, it is the Battle of Salamis. This battle has greatly changed the course of history. The coin presents detailed high Relief and has an oak insert.
The Battle of Salamis was a naval battle fought between an alliance of Greek city-states under Themistocles, and the Persian Empire under King Xerxes in 480 BC. It resulted in a decisive victory for the outnumbered Greeks.
As for the design of the coin, the reverse features the wonderful high relief image of the important Battle of Salamis. Here we can see many battleships and warriors that are engaged in the battle. On the top of the reverse, there is a special Lapacho insert (made from oak) with a dolphin carved in the wood. The obverse of the coin portrays the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with a map.
