This breathtaking black coin is the second issue of the Golden Enigma Edition and features the Giant Panda in gold and all filigree details. Struck from 1 oz silver .999, the coin is a unique combination of black and gold: it’s completely plated with Ruthenium and partly with 24K gold! The worldwide mintage is limited to 5 000 pieces.
The black obverse of the coin bears the relief of a pagoda. Pagodas are the most culturally significant thing depicted on Chinese coinage. The name of the coin and its year of issue are also indicated on the obverse.
The reverse features a relief Giant Panda, the iconic animal to China, inhabiting the mountainous temperate forests on the south west of the country. Unfortunately, these charming black-and-white bears are now considered as a critically endangered species – there are about 1,600 left in the wild. This is the result of human destruction of their forest habitat combined with poaching. The stylized bamboo leaves ornament at the background accomplishes the iconic image of the Panda to grace the new black and gold coin. To achieve the unusual black surface of the coin, it was coated with silver-gray Ruthenium, one of the platinum metals that looks like platinum but is rarer. Housed in a black luxury box, the Golden Enigma - Panda coin is a desirable collector’s item!
