A new Palau silver coin has been issued as part of the Sacred Art series. This stunning coin pays tribute to the Cathedral of Brasilia, officially known as the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady Aparecida, the Roman Catholic cathedral serving Brasília, Brazil, and the seat of the Archdiocese of Brasília.
On the obverse of the Palau coin, there is a stylized composition including a shield with Neptune holding his trident, a mermaid by his side and an open treasure chest. Above the composition, there is the inscription indicating the name of the issuing country. The obverse also comprises a beautiful stained glass insert and the legends denoting the face value of the coin as well as the issuing year.
The reverse design features the image of the outside of the Brasilia Cathedral with the same stained glass insert taken from the basilica ceiling. Designed by Oscar Niemeyer and completed on May 31, 1970, the cathedral is a hyperboloid structure constructed from 16 concrete columns, weighing 90 tons each. The upper part of this art coin includes the legend denoting its name. The Brasilia Cathedral coin has been issued with the limited mintage quantity of only 999 pieces, so don’t miss the chance to become the owner of this numismatic gem!
