Great news for coin collectors! The world of numismatics saw another unusual novelty - a coin with a real green freshwater pearl. Coin under the title “Mystery of the Sea” is part of the "Marine Life Protection” series and was struck by Coin Invest Trust especially for the island state - the Republic of Palau.
Richly decorated obverse of the green pearl coin represents the emblem of the Republic of Palau, engraving of the shield with Neptune holding a trident and a mermaid sitting on his left, face value and the name of issuing country are indicated at the bottom of the obverse.
The reverse of the coin is a spectacular showcase; it depicts an image of dazzling cockleshell beautified with a real green freshwater pearl. Pearls symbolize the power of water, femininity of the ocean, purity, dedication and fairness. It is considered as connection of fire and water (two fertilizing sources), the symbol of birth and rebirth. Inscriptions indicating titles of the series and year of coin’s issue are represented at the upper part of the reverse. Genuine natural pearls occur spontaneously and are formed inside the shell of a clam only when a foreign object such as grain of sand, etc. gets inside of the shell respectively these natural pearls are extremely limited and rare. The word pearl has become a metaphor for something that is considered exceptional, very rare, excellent and valuable.
