This coin honors an outstanding masterpiece created in 1518 by late Renaissance Italian painter Lorenzo Lotto. The obverse of the Madonna coin bears the Coat of Arms of the Principality of Andorra. Struck in fine detail, there is also the upper part of the Renaissance column decorated with artist palettes on both sides. The reverse features a small colored replica of Madonna and Child by Lorenzo Lotto. He is famous for his perceptive portraits and mystical paintings of religious subjects.  In his paintings, Lotto emphasized the contrast between the earthly and the spiritual realms by using a highly naturalistic style for the couple and a more ideal, poetic rendering for the Virgin and child.
