The obverse of the Australian coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II as a centerpiece. It is traditionally surrounded by the inscriptions indicating the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin, its issuing country and year.

The colored reverse depicts a platypus against a tropical rainforest background of a waterfall and river. Endemic to eastern Australia, including Tasmania, the platypus is a semi-aquatic, egg-laying, mammal easily recognized by its webbed feet, broad tail and duck-like bill, which is rubbery and contains no true teeth. The bill is a flexible, soft and very sensitive organ that helps the platypus to find its way about and search for food. These animals are protected from being hunted. The legends on the reverse include the name of the coin, its metal fineness and issuing year. This map-shaped coin comes housed in a nice presentation case and custom-designed shipper with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity attached.
