Situated about 500 miles north of the equator, the Central African Republic is a landlocked country bordered by Cameroon, Chad, the Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Republic of Congo. There are more than 80 different ethnic groups across the country. The Republic is endowed with virgin rainforests and has some of the highest densities of lowland gorillas and forest elephants in Africa. Diamonds, precious metals and timber have traditionally been CAR’s strongest exports, followed by cotton, beeswax, spices and coffee.
The country is known to coin collectors as the issuer of beautiful modern coins of gold and silver dedicated to its unique wildlife.
