China, officially the People's Republic of China, is a vast country situated at the eastern part of Eurasia and the western coast of the Pacific Ocean. It is considered the third largest country in the world with its land area of 3,706,581 square miles and the world's most populous country with a population of over 1.35 billion people. The country's civilization is over 5,000 years old and is known as one of the most ancient civilizations of the world, along with those of the ancient Babylon, Egypt and India.

China started minting commemorative modern coins in 1979. It is renowned for its successful series commemorating the Chinese New Year as well as the legendary silver and gold bullion coins dedicated to the Chinese Giant Panda.
