This is the 5th Christmas coin and it’s dedicated to a famous masterpiece by Philippe de Champaigne, a Flemish born artist of the French Baroque school. The Annunciation was painted in 1644 for the private chapel of Anne of Austria, the widowed wife of Louis XIII.

The obverse of the Cook Islands coin traditionally bears the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Along the rim of the silver coin, there are the following inscriptions: the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin and its issuing country.

The reverse of this gorgeous coin is embellished with a full-color reproduction of Philippe de Champaigne’s painting decorated on both sides with sixteen genuine Swarovski crystals. Only the Christmas issue has colored Swarovski elements, which makes this special edition even more interesting for collectors. The painting depicts the angel Gabriel which tells Maria that she is pregnant with Jesus Christ. The upper part of the reverse contains the legend indicating the name of the series.
