The traditional reverse of the Cook Islands coin features the portrait of Her Majesty Elizabeth II surrounded by the following inscriptions: the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin and its issuing country.

The reverse includes the relief image of a bee collecting pollen from a flower, struck with the use of laser technology to achieve intricate detail. It strikingly demonstrates the possibilities of laser surface refinement. Bees can be seen throughout the world except at the highest altitudes, in polar regions, and on some small oceanic islands.  There are about 20,000 species of bees worldwide.  They range in size from tiny insects only 2 mm in length to rather large ones up to 4 cm long.  The series name is indicated at the top of the reverse. This Shades of Nature silver coin will be a real find for those collecting exquisite nature-themed coins.
