Russia is represented by topaz, a beautiful semiprecious stone, often mistaken for a diamond because of the similarities in clarity and durability.

Both sides of the coin show the small balls of white topaz encapsulated in the transparent glass insert. The obverse also contains the classical effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II in the upper part of the coin as well as the inscriptions indicating the year and the country of issue, the Queen's name and the face value of the Fiji coin.

Featured on the reverse, there is the image of a howling wolf against the background of the Ural Mountains landscape. Small topaz balls match the silver shine of the proof surface that come accomplished with laconic legends denoting the name of the coin and the series. In the 17th century, rich deposits of minerals and precious stones, including topaz, were discovered in the in the Ural Mountains, Russia. The topaz mined in Russia is much smaller than most of the topaz from other sources, though it’s quite unique due to its natural deep color.
