The Republic of Palau has presented the eighth issue in the successful Mineral Art Series. The eye-catching antique finish coin with a limited mintage of 999 pieces worldwide is dedicated to Hagia Sophia, the most important Byzantine structure and one of the world’s greatest monuments.The special thing about the coin is its amazingly detailed antique finish design adorned with a real amber insert making the coin a real work of art.

The name of the coin and its issuing country are indicated on the obverse. There is also the traditional composition including a shield with Neptune holding his trident, a mermaid by his side and an open treasure chest.

The elaborate reverse of this Mineral Art coin is an antique finish depiction of Hagia Sophia, also called the Church of the Holy Wisdom, a cathedral built at Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey) in the 6th century CE (532–537) under the direction of the Byzantine emperor Justinian I. Unfortunately nothing remains of the original building. The legends on the reverse include the name of the coin and its issuing year. Like the previous issued in the series, this unique coin astonishes by its refined look due to the detailed elaboration and the precious insert.
