Struck from .925 silver with the limited mintage of 5 000 pieces worldwide, this 10-Hryvnia commemorative coin of Ukraine continues the `Maritime History of Ukraine` series highlighting the history of navigation and shipbuilding on the territory of the country.

On the obverse of the coin, there is the image of the wind rose as a symbol of sailing, and an ancient coin of the Bosporan Kingdom against the background of an old map. The upper part of the coin includes the State Emblem of Ukraine and the inscriptions of the issuing bank and the year of mintage. Below the map, there is a meander line and the face value of the coin.

The reverse of the coin features the snout of an ancient ship often used as a symbol of navigation on Greek and Roman coins. Above the image, there is a small copy of a ship under sail. As one of the major productive industries of the ancient Greek towns on the northern coast of the Black Sea, the shipbuilding contributed greatly to the technological advance of the society of that time. For almost two millennia Crimea was a node of the seaborne trade and intensive navigation. The reverse design is complemented with the ancient style inscription denoting the name of the coin against the background of a wide meander line.
