This amazing 2 oz silver coin is the first release in an exclusive 5 coin series called “Vikings”. It is dedicated to the Eric Bloodaxe.
Eric Bloodaxe is probably one of the best-known names in Viking history, at least in the British Isles. Eric Bloodaxe was a nickname of a Norwegian ruler who lived during the 10th century. His real name was Eric Haraldsson. He was famous for being King of Norway and twice King of Northumbria in short-lived terms. He was nicknamed as “Bloodaxe” because he was seen an archetypal Viking warrior – a huge, hairy and heroic warrior, and at the same time a proud owner of a large axe.
The reverse of the coin features a wonderful high relief image of Eric Bloodaxe, with many warriors around. The coin presents a lot of details like the seabirds and the runic carvings on the side of the boat. The obverse of the coin represents a very original circular pattern of Norse runes, both inside and outside of a border area and portrays the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The coin features ultra-high relief and selective gold plating. The coin is presented in an elegant wood case with a colourful graphic dust jacket together with the CoA. The serial number is also etched on the rim of the coin. The mintage is limited to just 500 pieces for global distribution!
