The eighth and final release in the well-known Australian Opal Series, this eye-catching silver coin is dedicated to a ghost bat. It’s a 1 oz piece of silver .999 with authentic Australian Opal design. The series with the limited mintage of 8 000 pieces of each entry depicts nocturnal Australian animals and birds designed in pure Australian opal.
The obverse of the coin carries the effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II surrounded by the legends indicating the Queen’s name, the name of the issuing country and the face value of the silver coin.
The reverse features an image of a ghost bat, in pure Australian opal against the background of intricate caves and Kurrajong flowers, a full moon and the Southern Cross, a constellation visible only in the Southern hemisphere. Native to Australia, the ghost bat is the only carnivorous bat in the country. It is named for the extremely thin membrane of its wings that makes it appear ghostly at night. These nocturnal creatures live in caves across the northern part of Australia. This opal coin comes in a beautiful display case with the light turning on when you open it, to realistically represent the moon shining down on the creature. The coin is accompanied by a stunning illustrated shipper and a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
