This incredible coin belongs to the series "Towards the Sky". Generally speaking, this series shows some of the most important stations in the invention of aviation. It tells us about the whole history of aviation: starting with the first fearless pioneers and ending with numerous flights and discoveries in aviation today. The given coin glorifies two pioneers of powered aviation, namely Igo Etrich, who broke records in 1910 by flying for 140 km across northern Austria, and Charles Lindbergh, who became the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic in 1927.
On the obverse of the coin, we can see Igo Etrich’s Dove in the foreground and the famous flight of Charles Lindbergh being commemorated in the form of a globe on which the two cities are linked by an arc. As for the coin’s reverse, an outstanding Junkers 52 is depicted here. It is famous for becoming an early stalwart of air passenger transport.
