This beautiful coin opens the phenomenal “Missing Works of Art” series created by the Mint of Poland. The series contains several mysteriously lost artefacts that were never found after their disappearance during the Second World War. The coin is dedicated to one of the most renowned works of the Italian Renaissance – Raphael’s “Portrait of a Young Man”.
Raphael Santi painted “Portrait of a Young Man” approximately in the first two decades of the 16th century. Czartoryski family purchased this painting in the early years of the 19th century. Since that time “Portrait of a Young Man” became a part of their collections in the Czartoryski Museum in Cracow. It was the most valuable piece of art in Poland that was lost during the Second World War.
This exceptional coin is the combination of art and the highest craftsmanship. It has an attractive design decorated with selective gold plating and Swarovski Elements. It is embellished with multi-coloured high quality printed decorations.
The reverse of the coin presents a precisely mapped “Portrait of a Young Man” and the Czartoryski Museum where the painting was housed till it was lost. The empty frame on its obverse refers to the theme of the series. It comes in a luxury new design box with magnet lock. It has a mintage of 1500 coins for global distribution.
