This is the first coin of an exclusive Evolution of Earth series. The coin is dedicated to Trilobites, a fossil group of extinct marine arthropods that form the class Trilobita. Struck from 2 oz silver 999 with 3,7 mm high relief, the coin is fully plated with ruthenium and selectively plated with 24K gold. It come housed in a stylized presentation case with a CoA inside. The worldwide mintage is quite low – only 666 pieces.
The traditional obverse of a Niue coin contains a relief effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II surrounded by the following inscriptions: the Queen's name, the face value of the coin, its issuing country and year.
Superior craftsmanship combined with ruthenium and gold plating result in quite realistic fossil-like piece. Trilobites are remarkable, hard-shelled, segmented creatures that existed over 520 million years ago in the Earth's ancient seas. They went extinct before dinosaurs even came into existence, and are one of the key signature creatures of the Paleozoic Era. The smallest known trilobite species is under a millimeter long, while the largest include species from 30 to over 70 cm in length.
