Apart from being one of five planets able to be seen with the naked eye, Saturn is best known for its beautiful and extensive ring system that encircles the planet and was first observed in 1610 by the astronomer Galileo Galilei. Like Jupiter, this planet is a gas giant and is composed of similar gasses including hydrogen, helium and methane.
