The spectacular new Gladiators series reveals the peculiarities of Ancient Roman fighters and reckons different classes of gladiator. This 2 oz silver 999 coin comes in outstanding high relief and its mintage is limited to 1000 pcs worldwide.
The obverse of the Solomon Islands coin features the portrait of Her Majesty Elizabeth II surrounded by the inscriptions: the Queen’s name, the face value, the country and year of issue and metal fineness.
The reverse of the coin is struck with a spectacular high relief artwork. The rim bears the name of the coin and the series, with the pattern on the background. Unlike the rest of gladiator types, which were modeled on real-world warriors, a retiarius was associated with a fisherman. His tactics against their usual opponent, a secutor, was based on fast evasion of attacks and use of his net and trident in the fight.
