The Death of Abel is the fifth release in the 2017 six coin series of iconic Biblical scenes. Each of these 2 oz silver coins features an impressive high-relief, rimless design and a laser-etched serial number, from 1 to 1499, which matches the one printed on the CoA. With the mintage of 1499 pieces, the coin comes housed in a luxury presentation box reminiscent of the Bible.
The traditional obverse of a Niue coin showcases the effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II surrounded by the inscriptions of weight, purity and face value.
The reverse image was Inspired by Gustave Doré's illustration of “The Death of Abel”. The first two sons of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel made sacrifices to God. The sacrifice by Abel was favored by God, but Cain’s was not, so he murdered his brother and was punished to a life of wandering. The certificate of authenticity has an antique feel that coincides nicely with both the finish of the coin and the design subject. The certificate also contains an image of Gustave Doré's “The Death of Abel”.
