In Aztec’s beliefs, Tonatiuh is a god of the Sun and a protector of fallen warriors. His name means “the one who makes the lightness.” It was said that this god is Sun’s personification and has to be feed with human blood to continuously shine and move around the horizon, so Aztecs made human sacrifices to him.
The reverse of the coin contains a detailed image of Tonatiuh with a marvellous Olivine insert as a symbol of the sun. The obverse of the coin depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with a marvellous sun in the background and the word “Sun” written inside in various languages.
