Few persons were so universally loved, adored and celebrated by people from all walks of life as Diana, Princess of Wales. To commemorate Diana CIT issued this beautifully struck coin for the Cook Islands in fine gold 9999 with an uncluttered design and a highly detailed portrait of the Princess. Succeeding the Pope Benedict XVI coin, this issue is the second BigGoldMinting© released by CIT measuring 11 mm at 1/100 oz in weight.
The obverse is quite traditional: the effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II surrounded by the inscriptions of the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin and its issuing country.
On August 31, 1997, the entire world mourned the passing of Princess Diana. Though she never found her happily-ever-after with Prince Charles (the couple divorced in 1996, just a year before her death), Diana remains a beloved figure and an icon of strength and independence to women around the world.
