The Central Bank of the Russian Federation in anticipation of the 2014 Sochi Olympics has launched a new series entitled "Sochi 2014". It is going to be one of the biggest coin programs in the history of the Olympic Movement to continue the tradition of releasing coins dedicated to the Olympic Games. This tradition has been followed for decades by different host countries.
The obverse features the relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation surrounded by the legends denoting the name of the issuing country, the face value of the coin and its issuing year. The coin’s pure weight and metal fineness are also indicated on the obverse.
The reverse of this Sochi Olympics coin shows the relief image of a lady curler and a primrose, the latter struck in color. Curling is associated especially with Scotland, where the game dates to the early 16th century. This sporting event debuted as an Olympic Winter Sport at the first Winter Games at Chamonix in 1924. The reverse also includes the series name and the five-ringed symbol representing the union of the five continents and athletes from all over the world meeting at the Olympic Games. Sochi Olympics commemorative coins are sure to become great keepsakes to remind of the 2014 World's Top Sports Event.
