This exciting silver coin is dedicated to the Voyager Golden Record.
The Voyager Golden Records are two phonograph records that were included aboard both Voyager spacecraft launched in 1977. The records contain sounds and images chosen to show the diversity of life and culture on Earth. These records are like a time capsule created with the aim of telling a story of our world to any alien life forms that may find it.
The contents of the Golden Record were chosen for NASA by a committee headed by Carl Sagan of Cornell University. Dr. Sagan and his associates collected 115 images and a variety of natural sounds, including those made by surf, wind, and thunder, birds, whales, and other animals. Furthermore, it contains some musical selections from different cultures and eras, spoken greetings from Earth-people in fifty-five languages, and printed messages from President Carter and U.N. Secretary-General Waldheim.
Each record is encased in a protective aluminum jacket, together with a cartridge and a needle. Instructions, in symbolic language, explain the origin of the spacecraft and indicate how the record is to be played. The 115 images are encoded in analog form.
As for the design, the coin is rimless and fully gilded. It has the shape of record grooves. The mintage is limited to only 500 pieces for global distribution.
It is considered to be a great gift for all space enthusiasts!
