The ninth issue in Mongolian Wildlife Protection series, which has started back in 2007, represents a new amazing coin dedicated to a Wild Boar or Sus scrofa. Produced with a new smartminting technology, this 1 oz and 999 silver antique finish coin demonstrates some realistic high-relief elements together with two Swarovski crystal inserts. The reverse side features the head of a wild boar with detailed fur and high relief canine teeth and a snout. To the sides of the reverse the inscriptions indicate the name of the series and Latin name of the animal. The obverse displays the Bank of Mongolia emblem with the inscriptions denoting the face value, the country of issue and silver composition.
The Wild Boar is known for being the most widely spread suiform. Finding its origins in Southeast Asia islands, this species subsequently settled most of the continents. Due to excessing hunting, however, the population of wild boar had declined and only in the middle of the 20th century it has slowly started to revive.
