Republic of Chad

A largely semi-desert country, Chad is surrounded by six countries: Niger, Libya, the Sudan, the Central African Republic, Cameroon, and Nigeria. The country has an area of 495,753 square miles, with a land boundary length of 3,708 miles. The country is sometimes referred to as the "Dead Heart of Africa" because of its proximity with the deserts. Lake Chad, from which the country gets its name, lies on the western border with Niger and Nigeria.

The Republic of Chad is rich in gold and uranium and stands to benefit from its recently-acquired status as an oil-exporting state. The country is also known to issue beautiful commemorative coins.
