Liberia

Bordered by Sierra Leone, Guinea, Cote d'Ivoire and the Atlantic Ocean, Liberia is Africa's oldest republic located on the west coast of the continent. Founded by freed American and Caribbean slaves, Liberia is one of the very few African countries not colonized by a European country and it’s mostly inhabited by indigenous Africans. Thanks to its rich water and mineral resources, vast forests and favorable climate, the country once exported raw timber and rubber. Nowadays, Liberia is recovering from the lingering effects of civil war and related economic dislocation.

As a modern coin issuer, the country is known for its History of Railroads coins dedicated to important milestones in the development of railroads.
